Agriculture is a very important sector of the Egyptian economy, as it contributes to about one-eighth of the GDP, employs about one-fourth of the labour force, and provides foreign exchange through agricultural exports.

Some of the main crops grown in Egypt are cotton, corn, rice, wheat, sugarcane, tomatoes, sugar beets, potatoes, and onions.
Egypt is also known for producing high-quality long-staple cotton, which accounts for about one-third of the world’s supply.
Egypt has two seasons of cultivation: winter and summer. The summer season is mainly for cotton and other cash crops, while the winter season is for cereals and vegetables.
